Choosing a Boiler

You are here:

Nearly all the new boilers being installed are now condensing boilers. These are far more energy-efficient than older boilers - typically up to 90%.  They re-use heat that would otherwise be wasted.

Condensing Boilers are available in three main types :

Combination Boilers

As well as heating your home, combination boilers have the ability to heat water direct from the mains, so you won't have to wait around for the water to heat up.

System Boilers

System boilers eliminate the need for a cold water feed tank in your loft by heating water straight from the mains.  This is similar to a combi boiler, but system boilers keep the hot water storage tank used by regular boilers.

Regular Boilers

A typical regular boiler system incorporates a boiler, extended controls, a hot water cylinder - which is often fed by a cold water storage cistern located in the loft - and a feed and expansion cistern, also located in the loft.  (See diagram below).

There are advantages to each boiler system, depending on your particular circumstances. Solution Plumbing can advise you on which boiler would be suitable for your needs and meet your budget.
